COLLEGE YOUTH

Do you have a child/children in college or entering college?  Can they still be Jewish while they're in school?  Of course they can and Temple Shalom can help.

Each year in the Shalom, an announcement goes out to the congregation asking for your children's college address.  Now with so many congregants using email, you can send your child's college address by email to the Temple Office or you can do it the old-fashion way, "snail mail", with a stamp to; Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen, NJ  07747.  Whichever way you choose, get your child's address to the Temple Office so they won't be left out!

Several times a year Debbie Ross sends out goodies to the students.  The package generally is centered around holidays, although the first mailing usually goes out sometime in September.  This is a time when most first year students are just getting used to being away and lovin' it! The mailings usually consist of a letter from Rabbi, sometimes Cantor, always some goodies and a toy or something useful like a tooth brush, pad/pens, a disposable camera or an album.

Parents, please make sure your child's address is correct, so we don't have any returned packages.   This committee is privately funded and Debbie generally tries to stay within a $5.00 per child per mailing amount, that total does not include postage.

One can also contribute to the COLLEGE FUND.  Please send your contributions to Temple Shalom indicating it is specifically for the "College Fund".

KEEP CONNECTED

HELP KEEP OUR

COLLEGE STUDENTS CONNECTED!

Several times per year, at the key Jewish holidays, Temple Shalom sends out a ‘care’ package to the college students of our temple members, to show we care enough to stay in touch, to offer a bit of Jewish education and to help them feel that they remain a vital part of our temple family.

The packages include a few reminders of the specific holidays. For example, the Purim package was a shalach manos Purim box filled with a gragger, mask, hamantashen baked by our Sisterhood, and a personal letter from the Rabbi.

These packages are not budgeted or funded by the temple. They are assembled by volunteers.

 #2

In the past two years, our college list has grown from 11 to 48 students!

  #3

These two factors add up to a need to ask for donations, to keep this vital program going!  Please be as generous as you can. Make your checks payable to Temple Shalom (please write ‘college fund’ in the check memo) and send to the temple office.

Need a gift? Why not let someone special know you’ve sent a donation to the

College Fund in honor of a birthday, a good test grade or just to say you care?  Thank you!
