COMMITTEES and ORGANIZATIONS  

 

Committees at Temple Shalom are always in need of new ideas and fresh energy.
Below is a list of the many opportunities, which provide a wide range of services to our membership.


ADMINISTRATION
Sends reviews and recommends to the Board of Trustees regarding programs, policies and procedures required to assure the smooth and efficient administration of the congregation as well as policies and employment practices for employees.

ADULT B'NAI MITZVAH CLASS
A 2-year commitment to study Hebrew and Judaism in preparation for a B’nai Mitzvah ceremony.

ADULT JEWISH GROWTH
Plans adult education classes, programs, workshops, lectures and trips.

BAR / BAT MITZVAH
In consultation with Religious School Director, sets the Bar and Bat Mitzvah calendar dates.

BOARD of EDUCATION
With the Educator, sets policies and oversees K-12 Religious School with regard to staffing, curriculum, budgeting and monitoring.

BROTHERHOOD
Promotes social and educational programs for Jewish men and their families through Sunday morning breakfasts, sports outings, etc. Provides service and helps raise funds to benefit our Temple in many ways.

BUDGET and FINANCE
Meets with all committees to prepare the Temple budget for congregational approval at the annual meeting.

CARING
Offers programs and support in the fields of social services and health. Sponsors our monthly “Service of Peace, Comfort and Healing.” Strives to ‘be there’ for congregants in times of loss, illness or other crisis.

CATERING
Oversees the catering policies of our Temple facility.

CHOIR (Adult)
Participates in and enriches our worship throughout the year, especially for the High Holy Days.

COLLEGE
Maintains contact with our college students by sending holiday packages several times each year.

COMMUNICATIONS
Publicizes and promotes the best interests of Temple in local press, Temple Web Site and The Shalom, our Temple monthly publication.

FACILITIES
Oversees the maintenance of our building and grounds.

FUND-RAISING
Plans activities and events ( raffles, concerts, etc. ) to raise funds that are needed to keep our Temple fiscally solvent.

LIBRARY
Maintains Temple’s book collection. These volunteers assist our religious school children in selecting appropriate books.

MEMBERSHIP
Goals are to recruit, orient and retain Temple membership.

NEWSLETTER
Solicits information, edits and publishes the bi-monthly "Shalom,” which is printed in conjunction with the “Mittn Drinen”.

NURSERY SCHOOL
Works with the Director to provide guidance and support to our Nursery School program.

OUTREACH
Welcomes intermarried families into Temple life and provides programs to explore and learn more about making a Jewish home.

RENAISSANCE
Provides opportunities for “empty nesters” to gather together for social, cultural and educational activities.

SISTERHOOD
Promotes social, educational, and Judaic programs to enhance congregation, religious school, and facility. Sisterhood runs Judaica shop, sponsors weekly Bible class, makes hospital visits and much more.

SOCIAL ACTION
Involves congregants in acts of social justice, such as participating in Mitzvah Day, food and clothing drives, supporting Mazon, visiting nursing homes, etc.

WORSHIP
Along with our clergy, establishes worship practices for the congregation. Coordinates all of our religious services, as well as minyan services at congregants’ homes.

YOUTH COMMITTEE
Hires Youth Advisors, sets policy, provides support and chaperones and runs fund-raisers for our youth programs.

YOUTH GROUPS
Provide programs for our youngsters to interact in informal settings with other Jewish youth. Our Senior Youth group, ToSTY is affiliated with regional and national URJ youth movement.
