Bring your spirit and enthusiasm to Sisterhood
L’Shana Tovah! Welcome to the new year! This is the time of year to start new things and to approach life with fresh spirit and enthusiasm.
With that in mind, I welcome everyone to join Sisterhood. For only $40 a year, you can get involved and contribute to the numerous programs, activities and scholarships sponsored by Sisterhood. This September we are participating in a series of mitzvah projects – first we will be collecting school supplies that will be donated to needy children in the Bayshore area as well as in Kenya. We will also sponsor the Tallit Workshop for seventh-graders.
October is Cancer Awareness month and in recognition of this important event, Sisterhood members and friends will be participating on October 19 in the Making Strides Walk-a-Thon supporting breast cancer research by the American Cancer Society. Please join us as a team walker or by making a contribution to one of our team members at the Team Sisterhood of Temple Shalom web page.
On October 5, our first Temple Tots program will take place in the Social Hall at 9:30 am. Additional Temple Tots will be held throughout the year. Temple Tots and Tot Shabbat services provide Jewish education to our young children. These programs are open to the community, and we invite everyone to attend.
On October 16 at 7:30 p.m., Sisterhood will sponsor an educational program about the BRCAgene that is involved in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Jewish women of Ashkenazi or Eastern European heritage have a heightened risk of having this gene. We hope this program will enlighten you about the potential risks and what preventative steps you can take.
Information about Sisterhood programs can be found in the Shalom and on our bulletin board across from the Nursery School office. We hope you will join us at these events and support us by becoming a Sisterhood member.
