Temple Shalom - Aberdeen, NJ

One of the many benefits of Temple membership is access to our fine Library. Parents of Sunday School students are also welcome to borrow items.

The Temple Library’s purpose is to serve the educational, informational, and enjoyment needs of the synagogue and its members by providing printed materials (books and magazines) and audiovisual materials (music CDs, DVDs, and VHS) on Jewish subjects.

The Library supports the Temple's Religious School by providing story time and book circulation during Sunday School classes. We also have a growing collection of DVDs that are used in Sisterhood programs and other Temple events.

The Library is staffed most Sunday mornings during the school year. Our roving book cart is on-hand at Kabbalat Shabbats on the first Friday of each month. At other times, books may be checked out by the honor system by printing your name and date on the pocket card in the back of the book and leaving it in the Book Return Basket by the door.

Our Online Catalog

We are currently cataloging every item into an online database. To review these items, visit our online catalog. You may also access our online catalog via a mobile device.

When searching, try the Keyword search, as it casts the widest net. You can truncate a search word by placing an asterisk after the first common letters. Remember that there may be different ways of spelling Hebrew words, so don’t give up without trying several variations.

Please note that we have many more books in the Library than are in the database, but all will be entered eventually. If there is an item you are interested in, but cannot find it in the online catalog, please let us know, and we may be able to get it.

Sunday School and the Library

The K-3 children can check out one item for a two-week period. If the item is not returned, they may not take out another until it is.

If there is a book, DVD, or CD that you would like to have in our library, please tell the Library Coordinator. The Library has funding, and I am happy to spend it on worthy items.

Special Collections

The Library has a section of teaching materials that can support synagogue educators, but are also support parents who wish to further support their child’s Jewish life.

There is also a collection of books and music and audio CDs of the musicians, artists, and comedians that have visited our Temple, in case you missed the punch line or want to learn the cool new song you heard at a Family Concert. Many of these tunes are ones we sing at Shabbat services, so you can borrow the cd and learn them so you can sing along.

The Library is the repository for the Caring Committee’s Humor Heals Collection, created to cheer those sick at home or in the hospital. Please feel free to borrow them to make those that need healing feel a little better.
