Welcome to Nursery School!

Temple Shalom Nursery School is on Facebook. Connect to our group – “Temple Shalom Nursery School – Aberdeen, NJ"
Established in 1991, Temple Shalom Nursery School is highly regarded and recognized for excellence in the community. We believe that children learn through play. Thematic units provide the “conceptual glue” through which we foster curiosity, creativity, learning & reading readiness, problem solving, vocabulary enhancement and understanding of Jewish holidays, customs and values.
With the expertise of early childhood educators, children are guided through age appropriate learning experiences that include language arts, music & movement, cognitive skills, dramatic play, fine & gross motor activities, science and much more. We expand our learning beyond our school environment by enhancing the curriculum with the Little Rockers Music Program, Mad Science Workshops, pre-k field trips and teaching the children about giving to others.
We offer flexible, affordable programs for children ages 2½-5. Our small class sizes and warm, nurturing staff provide the children with a wonderful preschool experience. Our Mommy & Me program for children 14-30 months helps to introduce children to the nursery school environment.
Our Summer Camp Program is all about friendship and age appropriate fun for preschoolers. We have fun theme days, sprinkler days and entertaining visitors.
Temple Shalom Nursery School serves families in the Monmouth and Middlesex county areas including Aberdeen, Matawan, Holmdel, Marlboro, Middletown, Old Bridge, South Amboy and more. All are welcome. For additional information, e-mail our Temple Shalom Director Cindy Terebush or call her at 732-566-1630.

Tzedakah Project of the Month: Temple Shalom Nursery School teaches the students the importance of helping others in the community. Each Friday as part of our Shabbat activities, our students have the opportunity to donate money to a worthwhile charity. The children learn about the charity and how their donations are helping others.
During the months of September & October, tzedakah money will be donated to American Friends of Magen David Adom. The Magen David Adom is Israel’s national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service. The American Friends of Magen David Adom, headquartered in New York, is the sole authorized fundraising and advocacy organization in the United States supporting the efforts of Magen David Adom in Israel. During the month of October, our students will learn about community helpers. We will learn that community helpers are in our neighborhoods and neighborhoods in Israel and around the world.

ASTHMA FREE

Temple Shalom Nursery School was given a basket from The Pediatric Asthma Coalition of New Jersey in recognition of having our entire staff complete the training “Policies and Practices for Asthma Friendly Child Care.” We learned about what triggers asthma, how to provide an asthma friendly environment and the signs & symptoms of asthma.
With allergies and asthma on the rise, I felt that it was very important to understand what we can do to provide the safest environment possible for all of our children. We learned a great deal about the situations and items that trigger asthma. We do all we can to ensure that Temple Shalom Nursery School is an asthma friendly environment.

Dear Temple Shalom Nursery School and Congregation—
A heartfelt note of thanks for your generous donation of art supplies and art kits for the children and families of the Amanda’s Easel Creative Arts Therapy Program of 180 Turning Lives Around, Inc.
Your donation put smiles on the faces of many children that are affected by family violence and abuse. It is quite comforting to know that there are organizations and community minded groups out there that can make a significant difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Thank you again for your kind service and best wishes for a happy spring!
Respectfully,
The Children, Families and Staff of Amanda’s Easel

The Nursery School Committee collected art supplies for Amanda’s Easel. Amanda’s Easel is a program of art therapy that helps children heal from the effects of domestic violence. The children in the Pre-K classes decorated shoeboxes to make art kits for the children. |

Books bring cheer to hospitalized kids
Hospitalized area children recently got a special gift from Temple Shalom Nursery School—almost 100 books collected by the temple nursery school committee, the schoolchildren, and their families and teachers.
The books were donated to the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and will be added to the hospital’s collection of books that are used to pass the time by children staying at the hospital and by parents and volunteers who read to the youngsters during their hospital stay.
“For hospitalized children, who are scared and away from home, a familiar book can be a comforting experience,” said Steven Kairys, M.D., head of pediatrics at Jersey Shore. “We also use the books to promote literacy and have volunteers and parents read to very young children who can’t read on their own yet.”
The book drive, part of the temple’s Mitzvah of the Month program, was planned by the temple’s nursery school committee. Mitzvah of the Month is a yearlong project to help the community through a different project each month. Past Mitzvah of the Month programs included food collections for the needy and blood drives.
In addition, each month the nursery school collects items for or sends donations to a different group. This year alone, the children have donated to such causes as Meals on Wheels, the American Dental Association Foundation and the Jewish Guild for the Blind.
“Temple Shalom Nursery School teaches our students the importance of helping others in the community,” said nursery school director Cindy Terebush. “We teach the children about who will be receiving their donations and they were excited to be able to give books to other children. They had a great deal of sympathy for the children who could not go to school and go out to play because they needed to be in the hospital.”

Temple Shalom nursery students raise thousands for MDA
Small feet can take big steps toward finding a cure for muscular dystrophy.
That’s what the children of Temple Shalom Nursery School proved recently when they raised over $2,200 during a “hopathon” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
Forty-three children hopped for two minutes and received $2,255 in sponsorship and matching funds. The children also collected tzedakah (the Hebrew word for charity) every Friday for a total donation to the MDA of $2,290.
In leading up to the Hopathon, teachers used the age-appropriate curriculum provided by MDA to teach all about disabilities and children with muscular dystrophy.
“Coordinating the MDA Hopathon at Temple Shalom Nursery School was such a rewarding experience,” says nursery school director Cindy Terebush. “Not only did we perform a service for those families who live with the challenges of muscular dystrophy, we also taught our children lessons about awareness and acceptance. The children had fun hopping and also have a better appreciation for people living with physical challenges.”
